The National Accountability Group (NAG) is concerned that Sierra Leone’s continued inability to properly address the issue of corruption could lead the country again into chaos, as it is generally understood that corruption was a major cause of the decade-long civil war....
The level of corruption is nearly impossible to assess, but it is safe to say, based on our own survey evidence as well as the work of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), that corruption is endemic in Sierra Leone. Surveys conducted over the past five years have shown that an overwhelming majority..

The problem was that, the overall Decentralization agenda of the Government of Sierra Leone was not pre-tested/experimented to help prepare for apparent defects in localizing the procedures and processes that are now emerging.......
The findings of the study reflect a general improvement in service provision from the 2002 financial year. As a result of the previous Ministry of Finance PETS study (2002), an independent auditor was hired to deliver school fees subsidies to all government-assisted schools.....
Institutional weakness is one of the prevailing causes of corruption in Sierra Leone, which to a greater extent is the result of a lack of internal oversight, poor remuneration, and deplorable working conditions. This, however, undermines the capacity of public institutions to function effectively.......
